FASHION FEATURE: INDIE SOUL

SOUL BIKINI HITS THE COVER OF SPORTS ILLUSTRATED SWIMSUIT ISSUE

Magazine features four of the brand’s swim suits in the 2015 edition

So the new cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for 2015 is out and we’re really excited about the cover. Not only because Hannah is stunning within her own right, but also because of what she’s wearing. That, my friends, is a two-piece customized swimsuit from our good friends at Indie Soul! Take a look:

The global luxury bohemian clothing and accessory brand, born right here in Miami, created this customized swimsuit (along with three others) specifically for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition. In order to see the other three pieces, however, you’ll have to grab a copy of the issue, which we highly recommend you do.

Ok, so let’s talk about the piece. Following the Indie Soul tradition of quality handcrafted garments; they wanted to create a piece that was inspired by outfits from the ‘30’s and 40’s with a nude and black color scheme. They created the piece by hand-stitching the vintage lace from France over the brand’s luxurious hand-dyed fabric. Indie Soul stated that it was tailored for a “Downton Abbey” theme, which we feel they pulled off quite effortlessly.

When asked about making the cover Tim Gorgol, Indie Soul’s Creative Director, said: “We are thrilled to have one of our suits on the cover of the Swimsuit Issue”. Adding lastly that Indie Soul wanted to thank “editor MJ Day and the whole team at Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. "We’re very grateful for this opportunity.”

It’s great to see locally based companies get this kind of exposure, and if making the cover of a very well-known magazine is any indication, you should definitely check out the rest of Indie Soul’s #CertifiedCOOL clothing and accessories! Visit them at www.myindiesoul.com.

DAY 2: WILDFOX
FLASHBACK FRIDAY was in full effect as the much-anticipated WILDFOX collection hit the runway. We could barely stay seated as the speakers blasted some of our fave tunes including: BBD's undisputed party hit, "Poison," old-school Mariah Carey and TLC. The swimwear collection featured whimsical graphics, iconic logos and well-known sayings. Pop colors and #CertifiedCOOL styling details like classic Reebok high tops completed the looks. This was one of the week's most enjoyable shows.

DAY 2: FRANKIE'S BIKINIS
Frankie's Bikinis runway show took place in the Grand Cabana at the Raleigh. Once again, we saw crochet on the runway. This time, the technique was used in a way that added interest to the collection's one-piece swimsuits. The beach-blown, loose side ponies tied with raffia and strips of left-over fabric and nude make up really gave a sexy beach hippie vibe to the show. The same raffia ties were also used as bracelets. Overall, the collection was calm, care-free and #CertifiedCOOL of course.

DAY 2: BEACH BUNNY
At the grand cabana, day 2 ended with glitz and glam as Beach Bunny's Blondes took over the runway. The over-the-top swimwear collection featured bold embellishments, luxurious textiles and clear references from lingerie. The hair was definitely giving us #BigHairDontCare attitude and the makeup was feminine and sexy with a strong eye and pouty lips. We're wondering if anyone else got the Bond Girl vibes like us.

About Beach Bunny:
You’ll find Beach Bunny Swimwear gracing the beautiful bodies of the world’s sexiest women. Designer Angela Chittenden is the brains — and body — behind Beach Bunny Swimwear. Angela’s passion for couture kicked in at an early age. “Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always loved fashion and swimwear,” she explains, taking a momentary break from her jam-packed schedule to speak about her design philosophy. “So being able to combine the two is a dream come true for me.” "There was nothing out there that was sexy and elegant. So I decided to design my own.” In designing that first Beach Bunny Swimwear line, Angela knew she wanted to create something different, something special, “something that would let women show off their bodies, feel sexy and confident, glamorous, flirty and fun all at the same time.”

She searched for unique fabrics, experimented with sexy cuts, added embellishments and hardware no one had ever thought to add to swimsuits before. Rather than looking at other swimwear designer lines, she found inspiration in the bedroom, blending elements of upscale lingerie into her styles.“Some people said I was crazy, that my designs were too risky, too out-there to catch on,” Angela remembers with a sly smile. “I guess they were wrong.”Angela’s boudoir-inspired lines were an instant hit with women looking for swimsuits that make a bold statement. By ignoring trends, Beach Bunny Swimwear started setting them. And grabbing the attention of the fashion, media and celebrity worlds. Sports Illustrated dedicated more pages of its Swimsuit issue to Beach Bunny Swimwear than any other line.

SWIM WEEK: 2015 RECAP
THE BEST OF DAY 3: MARA HOFFMAN, MIKOH, L'SPACE

DAY 3: MARA HOFFMAN!!!
Mara Hoffman was one of the most anticipated shows of the week and she did not disappoint. Our Mara experience began with a behind-the-scenes look at the designer directing the models on the runway in one of her own 2015 creations. Hoffman is known for her obsessive attention to detail and this collection was no exception! Inspired bold prints travelled down the runway as guests applauded in delight. We found ourselves doing some major "shopping in our heads" as each look came out. Every single piece was #CertifiedCOOL.

About the collection:
Mara Hoffman’s Resort 2015 collection started with her recent travels to Guatemala, where she was inspired by the beautiful people, art, textiles, culture and landscape. By taking these inspirations and pushing the envelope in terms of design, the collection has become a world of its own defined by color, shapes, prints and light. This season features a fresh take for the brand as Hoffman introduces a predominantly reversible swim collection – she creates a new class of bikinis and one pieces by marrying bold prints on one side with striking solids on the other.

Standout pieces include a one piece rash guard swimsuit, front lace-up bikini top with matching high waisted bottoms, cropped rash guards, cut-out one pieces with intricate beading and a pair of drop crotch pants with a mash-up of three signature prints. In true Hoffman style it was all about the details. Nick Irwin, Global Creative Director of Catwalk by TIGI accessorized the end of Mara Hoffman’s signature braid with palms. Sarah Lucero, Stila’s lead makeup artist, created a fresh faced look, adding a pop of color using blue eyeliner. Completing the look was jewelry by Orly Genger by Jaclyn Mayer, customized Madison Harding wedges and matching nails by Vanity Projects.

DAY 3: MIKOH
California designers Oleema and Kalani Miller found a way to mix ultra sleek silhouettes and materials with a bohemian vibe. The on-trend leather-look fabrics and precise cuts, gave the collection a modern edge. The free-flowing hair and fresh make up contrasted the streamlined suits, giving it an unexpected boho modern feel.

About Mikoh:
With the ocean as their backyard, the sister duo Oleema and Kalani Miller used their creativity and love for fashion to develop their swimwear line. Their collection is for the modern woman and incorporates prints and colors from around the world. With a global perspective on their designs, the pieces can be mixed and matched to fit the individual's personal style. You can find more of their collection at http://shop.mikoh.com

Day: 3 L'Space - Tribal Mermaids
L’Space’s,  “The Water Is Waiting” collection made its debut down the runway at Cabana Grande in the Raleigh Hotel. The models wore unique jumbo pearl headbands and they were adorned with beautiful gold fish-scale flash tattoos. The collection featured sheer cover-ups and two-pieces that could be worn on and off the sand. The overall theme of the show was named "Siren of the Sea" which was expertly executed in the "wet look" hair and make up. Cool lighting effects and floor decals transformed the runway into the sea so the models appeared to be walking on water.
