ART BASEL MIAMI BEACH : TUESDAY 12/3 DAY ONE

Our favorite time of year is unarguably Art Basel season right here in Miami. The week is filled with cool events and exhibitions that remind us so much of the time Terrance and I spent courting each other while in art school. We also love all the surprises and randomness we discover throughout the week.

This year we started out early. On Monday we browsed through opening of the The Wynwood Art Building before heading out to a friend's private "Basel Bash." Tuesday was really the start of exhibition hopping and what we consider 'Day One.' We started at the Context/Art Miami tents in Wynwood and then headed to Project Miami and Red Dot.
We'll be going to back to the Wynwood tents on Friday and Saturday to spend more time browsing and favoring, but here are a few snaps from our drive by.

Look up and you might see the floating lady.

Not to be missed is Miami Project's pop-up shop that features artist-made merch available during basel only. Prices for the items range from $10-$500. This reminds us of the time when Bansky sold priceless prints on the streets of New York for $60
That said, we recommend you stop by and pick something up.

Next stop was the Colette Art Drive By pop-up shop at the Alchemist in the 1111 Lincoln building and the Ferarri Piston Head Exhibition. The Colette shop, on the 7th floor, explored a new shopping experience where users browsed the merch on a wall, ordered at a kiosk and picked up at the check out station. The hottest show in town was the Ferarri event on the top floors. A-listers examined Enzo's and car sculptures while sipping on Veuve in the gorgeous Herzog & Meuron designed building.

We capped off the evening on sand at Scope Art Fair. The 'drive-by' theme continued as we quickly browsed through amazing galleries, including Ken Borochov's MORDEKAI. We'll be returning to Scope throughout the week to give the show the time it deserves.
(sigh) So much to do…

Check back during the week and after for more Basel bites!

His work has been seen on Nikki Minaj, Cher, Lady Gaga and many more.

FASHION FILES : Another Brilliant Designer Collabo

Hooray! Narciso Rodriguez for Kohl's - Fall 2012

(Check out the tv spot for the collection... cool that the commercial is set to Santigold.)

To be honest, we've never been to Kohl's, but Santigold and Narciso definitely inspires. Obviously, major designer collabos are nothing new in the biz—affordable retailers
like H&M and Target have been doing them for years. Its just nice to see more designers
lending their genius to affordable retailers for "everyone" to enjoy. Anyways, go forth
and save... but don't forget to let us know how you did

FASHION FILES : Maison Martin Margiela for H&M

STORY BY -  http://www.vogue.co.uk

The first images from the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M advertising campaign have just been released. Shot by artist and director Sam Taylor-Johnson, the pictures are the first preview of precisely what the hugely-anticipated designer-high street collaboration has in store.

The images showcase a taster of both the men's and womenswear on offer - a selection of chic separates with a focus on silhouette and cut, the likes of which are synonymous with the French fashion house's mainline collection. It was revealed last week that Taylor-Johnson shot a series of short films and still photographs for the campaign on the streets of Paris.

The Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection will land in stores and online on November 15.

FASHION FILES : FALL TRENDS ZARA LOOKBOOK

Zara Woman Fall 2012 Look Book

Zara Man Fall 2012 Look Book
Hooray! Our favorite fashion season is already coming upon us and we're featuring the best of Fall trends. Zara's Fall 2012 look book is oozing with Fall cool factor. We don't know if it's the photography or what, but the pieces look more lux and richer than ever. Leather and denim and peplums and studs... Zara's fall pieces are a style blazer's playground. We love the tone-on-tone treatments used in the more opulent looking pieces and the use of leather is so clean and simple.

Leather & denim major trend alert!
This season, leather is taking over in a major way! Mixed fabrics accented with leather panels, and leather trimmed peplums, dresses, pants and blazers will be all the rage... we're just going to have to do another post on just leather.

And then there's denim—which is forever coming back almost every season. This time, we'll be seeing high end designer denim footwear and handbags, new dress silhouettes made with denim, denim mixed with leather panels, and much more.

You can start populating your fall wardrobe with must have pieces. Shop Zara here.

FASHION FILES : GROW SOME JEWELS

Icelandic product designer, Hafsteinn Juliusson, and Atlanta indie designer, Colleen Jordan, have been taking going green to a whole new level with "grow jewelry." The pieces are not only creative, but they are well designed. There's nothing worse than a good idea executed poorly. Both designers use clean lines and geometric shapes in their work. Perhaps the only downside is that they do require some maintenance. Good thing Haf provides easy-to-use directions and a mini green house to help preserve the live jewels. These pieces are definitely not for the introvert because they will surely provoke conversation. Sure they're not for everyone, but grow jewels have major COOL factor and only a fearless trendsetter could pull this off with grace.

Order your green jewels here and here in celebration of World Design Day! Colleen Jordan is being featured on fab.com today.

FASHION FILE : PEPLUM POWER

Its Friday and for some of you it's also PAY DAY! While you're out blowing your rent money on fabulous fashions, be sure to pick up some peplums to add some pep to your spring wardrobe! Peplums are fun, flirty and feminine... the kind of F's I like (don't even go there).

Here are some fun facts about peplums I borrowed from sunflowersandspears's blog:
1. Peplums originated from Greece and was the Greek word for tunic.
2. Peplum films are the title given to the genre of films which incorporate old Greek history and style.
3. In the 19th century a peplum referred to a short overskirt that was originally (and sometimes it is still) attached to the bottom of a jacket. It usually drops at the waist on a womans' body.
4. The purpose for a peplum was to add to a womans' figure and enhance her hips and therefore make her waist appear smaller.

The peplum play suit is to die! ASOS certainly doesn't have a shortage of peplums. I love the structured, futuristic styles that give you a feminine look with a little edge that's cool.

Happy shopping!!!
