ART SAKE : WU TANG TO SELL JUST ONE COPY OF THEIR SECRET ALBUM

Somewhere hidden in Marrakech, Morocco, inside a vault housed beneath the shadow of the Atlas Mountains, there sits an masterfully engraved silver-and-nickel box. Inside... the Wu-Tang Clan’s NEW double-album The Wu – Once Upon A Time In Shaolin, (recorded in secret over the past few years). British-Moroccan artist Yahya, whose works have been commissioned by royal families and business leaders around the world, created the one-of-a-kind work of art. The preciously crafted container took three months to make.

WuTang will make and sell just one copy of the album. According to RZA, 1 million pounds has already been offered to the legendary hip hop group. “We’re about to sell an album like nobody else sold it before,” says Robert “RZA” Diggs, the first Wu-Tang member to speak on record about Once Upon A Time In Shaolin, in an exclusive interview with FORBES (source http://www.forbes.com). “We’re about to put out a piece of art like nobody else has done in the history of [modern] music.  We’re making a single-sale collector’s item. This is like somebody having the scepter of an Egyptian king.”

In a recent interview with Wendy Williams, RZA explained that music has become devalued.
This is his attempt to elevate and reclaim music as true artform. The plan is to the album on a museum and gallery tour. The approach is similar to the way a priceless piece of fine art is exhibited and toured. Visitors will be able to view and listen to the 31 songs on headphones. There will be extreme measures taken to ensure that a single note doesn't gets leaked.

After the tour, the bidding war will begin.

The album produced by Tarik “Cilvaringz” Azzougarh has an air of the vintage Wu-Tang sound that made the group famous. As Cilvaringnz worked on the masterpiece, he had a lot of time to think about the shelf life of his work. “It took a long time,” says Cilvaringz. “After five years, I’m sitting here and I’m like, ‘Am I really going to release this record and see it die after a week?" (source http://www.forbes.com). That was the beginning of the "one copy" concept.

Cilvaringz hope is to inspire a shift, appreciation and renaissance of the art of sound. There's even talk of the idea this reviving the practice of commissioning private music. Everything about this is jaw-dropping and exiting! This is like a new, organic, remixed, titanium-covered Save the Music campaign and we think its #CertifiedCOOL.

This certainly a way to keep their "WuTang Forever" mantra alive.

FASHION FILES : DEMOBAZA (NINJO WEAR)

I am currently obsessing over DEMOBAZA, a fashion brand I stumbled on. Established in 2007, they only make their wearable art in limited quantities whenever they feel like it. The brand pushes the boundaries of deconstruction, reproportion, draping, layering, shape and texture. I love it because the pieces are perfect for my cool inner ninja alter-ego... NINJO

TREND TALK : NINJA

Believe it or not, Johanne is a NIT (ninja in training)... and she's dead serious. Its actually kind of a funny to thing to see her in class because she is always perfectly accessorized and toes must be done for her to really feel comfortable in training.

We've always loved all things ninja inspired. Its the sleek and avant-garde design with stealthy colors like black, gunmetal and steel really draw us to all things ninja-inspired. For true trend makers, ninja style is a dream. The cuts, fabrics, construction and overall aesthetic is timeless and will always ooze cool factor.

Check out our style picks for the ninjas and wanna-be's out there: Kris Van Assche, Y-3 by Yohji Yamamoto, and Assaboots (very accessible ready-to-rock tabi boots), are some of the coolest footwear that embrace ninja style. Tabi boots are the best. We got a few pairs here. Be sure to measure your feet properly if you're going to buy them online. Also, we'd suggest you get tabi socks as well... you'll thank us later. Renee Andriole gives us a truly unique piece of jewelry with her sickle ring. BrianWood makes the coolest ninja hoodies. The one pictured at the top with the mask is from the 2008 Warlord Collection. Contact them at info@brianwoodonline.com to see if you can buy one from them direct. Japanese designer Limi Feu creates killer volumnous, layered, asymmetric and streetwise clothing. The Naruto Shuriken bag (ninja throwing-star bag) is sick and the Ninja Zapi toothbrush sanitizer is one of our personal faves. We actually have them.

Interestingly, the point of the ninja is to be undetected and unseen. These designs are so disruptive among the usual store bought world we live in, that there is no way you could go unseen. We think that artistic tension is COOL.

FASHION FILE : PEPLUM POWER

Its Friday and for some of you it's also PAY DAY! While you're out blowing your rent money on fabulous fashions, be sure to pick up some peplums to add some pep to your spring wardrobe! Peplums are fun, flirty and feminine... the kind of F's I like (don't even go there).

Here are some fun facts about peplums I borrowed from sunflowersandspears's blog:
1. Peplums originated from Greece and was the Greek word for tunic.
2. Peplum films are the title given to the genre of films which incorporate old Greek history and style.
3. In the 19th century a peplum referred to a short overskirt that was originally (and sometimes it is still) attached to the bottom of a jacket. It usually drops at the waist on a womans' body.
4. The purpose for a peplum was to add to a womans' figure and enhance her hips and therefore make her waist appear smaller.

The peplum play suit is to die! ASOS certainly doesn't have a shortage of peplums. I love the structured, futuristic styles that give you a feminine look with a little edge that's cool.

Happy shopping!!!

FASHION FILES : EAR CUFFS

We first read about ear cuffs last season, but have yet to see them really take off in the US so we think they're still a relevant trend in 2012. Ear cuffs do not require any piercings and can be worn in one ear or both. We suggest wearing just one for the more flashy styles and then counter balance it with a simple mid-ear band cuff on the other side. There are really so many jewelry designers making ear cuffs and the choice is really overwhelming. Since Jo is a ninja in training... we tend to like the edgier, Beatrix Kiddo inspired styles seen in these designs by Maria Francesca, Anni Jyrgenson, Mercury Cuff Design, and Duncan Stevens. Don't over-do your look by wearing too much. Keep it easy, sleek and chic or you'll look you're trying too hard and that's never COOL.
