The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala has been described as the Oscars of fashion. The purpose of the gala is to raise funds for the Costume Institute. We love this event because it is all about celebrating designers and their amazing works of art. It is the night where designers are the stars and the stars are their canvases. This year there was lots of glitz and glam on the carpet but, we would have liked to see more drama and avant-garde artistry applied to the works... after all this is the COSTUME gala people. So which of these designs get your COOLEST ON THE CARPET vote?

FASHION FILES : WHITE HOUSE RED CARPET

The 98th Annual White House Correspondents Association Dinner 2012 was the hottest ticket this weekend and the stars came out in their best runway looks. Politics aside, this was a real fashion showdown. Here are our fave looks: (1) FLOTUS The First Lady has never looked better in Naeem Khan, (2) Charlize Theron in Emilio Pucci, (3) Elle MacPhearson, (4) Kerry Washington in a gorgeously colored Calvin Klein gown, (4) Kate Hudson in Jenny Packham, and (5) Irina Shayk in a fab white jumper. The clear show stopper (besides FLOTUS of course) was Uggie, the dog from the movie The Artist. Pretty COOL of them to allow him on the carpet. Our dog Coco would look at that carpet and think it was the world's most ginormous peepee mat and go to town. We digress.

FASHION FILES : VANITY FAIR & OSCARS 2012

Finally! Here are our red carpet picks from the 2012 Vanity Fair Party and Oscars. Viola Davis is just an all around winner! She just has it all... (*happy sigh*). Judy Greer could have done more to compliment her amazing dress. We loved the futuristic dress so much that we gave her a pass this time. J-Lo shut it down with her curve hugging gowns at the Academy Awards and at Vanity Fair. I love the Becks. They just ooze cool factor. Emma Stone was just easy and breezy even in head toe red. With a name like Mila Jovovic, you just get extra cool points. Her one shoulder white gown was sculptural,  graceful and edgy at the same time. Octavia Spencer makes me smile. She's my secret BFF. I gasped when I saw her in her gown... so gorg! Whoever is styling her gets an A+! Pharell always keeps it cool. Love him! Stacy Keibler made the list for her artistic metallic gown. She wore it well and didn't look uncomfortable in it. We chose stars that had the "je ne sais quoi," effortless, "get it" factor. Because that's what COOL is all about. So there you have it!

FASHION FILE : THE GRAMMY 2012 REVIEW

I have to say that the red carpet fashion at the 2012 Grammy Awards was quite the snooze fest.
There were just a handful of looks that did peak my interest including Rihanna's Giorgio Armani sleek & sexy gown, Kathy Griffin's surprisingly flattering look, Tyga's red velvet blazer, and I gasped when Gwyneth Paltrow sachayed down the stage in her glam Stella McCartney dress with cut-outs and gold belt... yes please! Chris Brown showed up and showed out in his performance where he danced up and down a multi-level cubic structure complete with colorful projections. As I watched the performance in awe, I was pleasantly distracted by his super reflective silver Maison Margiela kicks from the Summer 2012 collection... yours for “only” $680 at Saks (side note: I believe they're women's shoes). Anyways, I wasn't digging the rest of his ensemble, but who cares when you're wearing shoes that cool!
