#theSELFIE
Created by CoolCreativeinc.com

The selfie is a smartphone-produced version of the self-portrait, which has been a staple of art and photography history since artists first began seeing examining their own images. The evolution of self-portraits through selfies has made it possible to for the masses to do what was only reserved for the elite group of artists and photographers that had the skills to create them.

Some people take selfies to receive validation. Some take them to share their lives with the world. Some take selfies because they lack self-esteem and others do it to encourage people. Some people take selfies just for fun. Whatever the reason, the selfie is here. It is more than just a fad, it  will forever be the self-portrait of our time.

In this exhibition we explore the blurred lines of the virtual and real world through the idea of taking selfies. We invite you to explore the duality of the selfie experience.
To fully interact with this collection, guests will be invited to scan the unique codes and join the conversation through social networks.

Please join us in the official SXSW Trade Show Gallery at the Meet-up Lounge.

SWIM WEEK KICKS OFF IN MIAMI
with Miami Fashion Network Event
By: Joanne Joseph
Cool Contributor

The COOL dream team stopped by Miami Fashion Network’s kick-off party on The Betsy Hotel's roof deck. The ocean drive rooftop was filled with fashion enthusiasts, shop owners and socialites. Models stunned and stunted in their designer swim wear designed by
Ellis Beach Wear. The #CertifiedCOOL pieces were a great predecessor of what was to come for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2015.

MIAMI FASHION WEEK 2014
16th Edition
By: Joanne Joseph

From Thursday May 15th through Sunday May 18th, some of the hottest designers came together to  showcase the latest styles and trends from Latin America and the Caribbean.  Celebrating its 16th year Miami fashion week has given top designers the opportunity to display their talents to the South Florida community. The week also gives Miami designers the chance to introduce their work to the fashion world.

The Anna Mora Collection

Designer Anna Mora was a representation of diversity with pieces that incorporated
textiles and natural silk.

Project Runway Season 3 winner Matìas Hernàn featured his COOL and futuristic pieces.  The Chilean designer's cutting-edge collection did a great job of incorporating femininity to a sharp, futuristic look. Hernàn has appeared in magazines such as Vogue Latin America and Cosmopolitan and continues to style and direct fashion photo shoots.

The Matìas Hernàn Collection

Bolivian-born designer Paulo Silva’s collection was nothing short of chic couture while Sheri Hill’s gowns exuded elegance and class. We of course cannot forget the vibrant colors and hand-painted designs of Agatha de la Prada whose collection was bold and represented the Spanish designers personality along with a Miami twist.

From the runway shows, to the pop-up boutiques and workshops, we can conclude that the 16th edition of Miami Fashion Week was a definite a success and a #COOL event.

THE FASHION HAPPY HOUR
1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
The Catalina Hotel in South Beach was the perfect setting for The Fashion Happy Hour's one year anniversary event. We were selected to be one of the guest bloggers and we were invited to style models from Damas School. The event was sponsored by Miami Fashion Network, a group that offers exposure for Miami designers and local trade suppliers so they can support each other with fashion-minded consumers.

Besides being unbelievably fashionably sweaty (as my fellow blogger OJ&Cigs said),
we had a chance to parlay with #CertifiedCOOL designers, writers, models, fashion entrepreneurs and enthusiasts. There was great shopping (especially in the jewelry department), refreshing drinks and lots of selfie taking.
Coolin' it with Jana Carreno of OJ & Cigs
Adorned by Paleo
Yes, I was feeling myself.
Some good people watching. Her Zara necklace was hot.

My gorgeous muse from Damas. We went for an effortless COOL look perfect for this time of year. The color was perfect on her, he jewelry was pop locking' and her look just worked for her.
She worked it.

We couldn't get enough of these pieces by Katherine Cordero.

I mean really.

Then there was a fashion show...

Ran into one of the sickest designers I know, Sharon of 2552. Remember this… Stay tuned.

Such a lovely host. Thank you Valentina Leon for having us. Chic by V also pictured here.

To celebrate Miami Live Month, The Greater Miami Convention & Visitor’s Bureau hosted a 'Rock the Bus Tour' every weekend in November. We were treated to complimentary transportation and admission and enjoyed food and drinks catered by The Daily Melt.

The bus tour took us to Little Haiti where we paid homage to attend the Big Night in Little Haiti on one of the nights. The show was incredible and included a few headliners such as  Tradisyon Lakou Lakay,  Rara Lakay and Legendary 'voudou rock and roots' group R.A.M, making a rare appearance to the US just to give a cool performance for the audience.

Scroll down to see the pics below from my experience at Big Night in Little Haiti.

Thanks to the GMCVB and Mastercard for such an unforgettable experience!
Look out for our Art Basel Feature next month!

OF THE GMCVB’S MIAMI SPA MONTH PROMOTION

Clowns Caused Uproar at Spa Casa Moderna

MIAMI, FL August 7, 2013 – On their day off, clowns from the Adrienne Arsht Center’s SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW took advantage of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Miami Spa Month at Spa Casa Moderna; however, in typical clown fashion, spontaneity and exuberance took over, with snow – lots of snow. After taking full advantage of Spa Casa Moderna’s amenities and enjoying back massages, scalp massages, soothing baths and dipping their feet into the spa’s plunge pool, two green clowns and a yellow clown took over and caused great commotion.

After much deserved rest, SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW clowns are now ready to continue  performances through August 25, 2013. Miami Spa Month offers are available through August 31, 2013. For more information on Spa Casa Moderna’s services and reservations, please call (786) 369-1050.

POP UP PIANOS

During Art Basel 2012 we attended the most fabulous events held at the
Gansevort in Sobe. Miami's cultural elite came out to celebrate Friends of the New World Symphony and the Kimbanguist Symphony Orchestra, Central Africa’s only symphony. At the event, Steinway & Sons Miami presented its public arts project POP UP Pianos which featured artist-customized pianos. The pianos were then donated to local charities.
