COOL EVENTS: How To Be a Millionaire At The Armory Show 2015

Having a million dollars must feel nice, right?

I mean, most people at one point or another have thought about how it must feel to be a millionaire. We watch shows about it, keep up with celebrities, and lust for objects and amenities only available to the "elite" and wealthy.

Ah, yes, having a million dollars must be nice, but what if I told you, that you could know what it feels like first-hand?

You see, down at the Armory Show 2015 you can actually fulfill your lifelong dream of being a millionaire!

It's called the "Million Dollar Walk"! For 10 minutes,  you have the opportunity to walk around the fair with a briefcase filled with, you guessed it, a million dollars in cash!

The interactive work by Jonathan Schipper allows visitors to the Pierogi Gallery to sign up and walk around pier 94 with the well-equipped suitcase.

Included are handcuffs, which will strap you to the suitcase, and a guard. Not included is The O'Jays "For The Love Of Money" as a soundtrack while you walk.

There isn't a route to which you have to stick to but you are told to "avoid the exits".

The idea of this performative work is to "even the playing field". Schipper stated that art fairs are a meeting place for art and money. He realized this after reading various articles that discussed these art  fairs and how the focus was more on the money behind the artwork rather than the art itself. So even if its for 10 minutes, he gives the regular attendee the chance to even the playing field. That's why he does this during public viewing hours rather than on the VIP preview.

So if you're in the area of twelfth avenue and 55th street in NYC, check out The Pierogi Gallery Booth in Pier 94 and become a millionaire today (for 10 minutes of course)!

FASHION FILES: Class Is In Session

By: Tymeco Pyles

CFDA nominated brand, Public School NYC has turned it up a notch with their unique designs and ever so classic identity. Public School designers Dao-Yi Chow andMaxwell Osbourne founded the label in 2008 and they live by one mission, to find perfection in imperfection. Public School is one of the up and coming conspirators in the new wave of young irreverent American menswear designers. They take inspiration and energy from their surroundings and inject that attitude into their garments. They understand that fashion should help change or augment the way you feel. They want men to feel tough again.

In a constant reaction against the expected, Public School holds a pen in one hand and a sword in the other. They are both teachers and students who continue to critique the culture we help create, resulting in a new vision of constructed garments that focus on fabrication, fit and attitude. The COOLest thing about Public School NYC is the operation. All items are manufactured out of New York, in factories based in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. This is just another principal that sets them aside from the rest.

ART SAKE : ART, FASHION, VANDALISM?

Exit Through the Gift Shop has become one of our favorite flicks of all time. Ever since we watched it, we've been so interested in the world of graffiti propaganda artists. So you can imagine our delight when we learned about the "staged feud" between Kidult and Marc Jacobs.

Recently, the Mercer street Marc Jacobs store was vandalized by Kidult, an artist famous for doing this type of thing. He typically creates t-shirts to memorialize his work and then sells them for $40. Well, Marc Jacobs flipped the script by making a shirt first and is selling it for $680!

Needless to say, Kidult was seemingly ticked off and declared war on twitter. Why "seemingly?"  Well, Global Grind is reporting that Marc Jacobs actually hired the artist to tag his store! Was the hoax worth it? We think it would have been totally COOL if we didn't know it was a PR stunt. Otherwise... not so much.

More about Kidult.

FASHION FILE : GLOW IN THE DARK PANTS

While so many beautiful collections graced the runways this week at NY Fashion Week Fall 2012, I had yet to find something with some real break-out COOL factor. In my fervent search... I stumbled upon Hudson Jeans LouLou Glow Stripe Pants, tuxedo-inspired pants which feature a stripe on each leg that glows under black light. I mean hello!!! This is what I was looking for! Now these aren't the first glow in the dark jeans on the market. Naked & Famous Denim created glow jeans where the entire pant glowed in the dark. I'm just not sure that I'd want to be walking around like I took a dip in a nuclear pool... know what I'm sayin'? I am a strong believer of: “too much of a good thing can go bad.” The Hudson LouLou pant gives you just enough of the glow effect with the side stripe. They even had a fabulous concept for the NYFW F2012 launch where they took over the NY meat-packing district with an event they called the “Phosphorecent Invasion.” It was a brilliant mélange of performance art and black-light rave which featured the glowing denim. That is so cool! Get your pair of these amazing creations at Hudson.

FASHION FILE : TOPSHOP UNIQUE SS12

The urban goddess emerged at S12 London Fashion Week and now you can shop the collection at TopShop. I love the graphic prints and my mental color wheel is doing the running man over the combination of black and white with pops of gold. Definitely been one of my personal fave styling color combos and I do rock it maybe a little too often. The collection is inspired by the opulence of an Egyptian goddess pop-locked with 90s NYC Hip-Hop swag.

Some of my faves from the retail level selections are the All Seeing Crop Top, Patent Bumbag, Hieroglyph Piped Halter Dress, All Seeing Bikini and Maxi, and of course the Cleopatra Sweat Dress. One thing I have noted... (I'm not hatin') some the prints are very Keith Haring... just saying. The Unique SS12 Collection still gets props. Cleopatra & NYC circa 1990s... that's cool!
