COOL PEEPS : ZAHA HADID

Last night, we watched a great documentary called "London Games: Building the Park" which covered all of the genius work that has gone into creating the place that will forever be known as Olympic Park in London.

Among the many architects, designers and planning managers that were featured was the legendary Baghdad native, Zaha Hadid. She is the first woman to win The Pritzker Architecture Prize which honors a living architect whose built work consistently demonstrates exceptional talent and vision, produced significant contributions to humanity and the environment through the art of architecture.

The award-winning architect was chosen to create the Aquatic Centre which will be one of the permanent buildings constructed for the Olympics. When she revealed her design, it was so COOL that the Olympics committee decided to make it the official gateway to Olympic Park. The spectacular roof features a curved design inspired by the movement of water and it has become one of the most challenging engineering projects ever. It is supported by two concrete supports and a supporting wall. The 3000 ton piece was lifted in a single movement. The two outer structures that are on both sides of the curved center building are temporary and will be removed after the games.

Throughout her career, Zaha Hadid has won many competitions and she is now one of the most sought-after designers in the world. Needless to say, she has her place in architecture and product design. Last year, she was included in the Forbes list under "The World's 100 Most Powerful Women", justifying all the fame that her name began to be producing for major companies in the world.

COOL SPOTS : AMAZING POOLS

These are just some of the most phenomenal pools in the world on our bucket list. The Santorini Grace infinity pool; the historic swimming hole called Hamilton Pool in Dripping Springs, Texas; Nemo 33 in Brussels the deepest pool in the world; the infinity pool at Kadalam Hotel in Sri Lanka overlooks the lush terrain; Jade Mountain Resort pool in St. Lucia is so picturesque that it doesn't even look real; and then there's the enormous pool, San Alfonso del Mar in Chile which holds the current Guinness record as the world's largest crystalline water pool; the pool at Marina Bay Sands Hotel & Casino in Singapore is not for the faint-hearted; and finally Devil's Pool at Victoria Falls.

We love the beach, but a really well-designed pool with crazy COOL factor just can't be beat.

GEEK CHIC : BOOMBOX DOCK

We recently spotted a pic of Jay Z carrying the iHome Stereo Boombox while boarding his yacht to St. Barts with the fam (must be nice). Although boomboxes are retro/vintage, iHome's design is actually fresh and modern. We're thinking it has something to do with the tone-on-tone treatment of the all knobs and buttons combined with the matte finish and the modern color choices: all black everything or neon pink.

Lasonic also makes their own version of retro boombox docks. They're not as stylish but still have major cool factor. The gold one is hot to def!
Boombox docks are a must have for a COOL summer.
Order your iHome boombox here and the Lasonic boombox here.

COOL SPOTS : MUST SEE PLACES IN THE WORLD

We're celebrating our fifth year wedding anniversary this summer! Can you believe that we've been together for over twelve years and still like each other? To celebrate, we're taking a two week vacation. We really want to go somewhere cool like Tokyo or Thailand, but we'll see where the wind takes us. All this travel talk had us thinking... what are the coolest and not-so-commercial places to travel to around the world? Here are some of our faves: The Serengeti and Mauritius in Africa, Petra in Jordan, The Cave of Crystals in Mexico, Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Hamilton Pool in Texas, Birdseye of City in Norway and Bagan. Wow, this may have to be a two part series because we found so many amazing places.

Don't you wish you were one of those people that get to travel around the world and rub it in everyone's face on some travel TV show for a living? That would be too COOL.
